And #1 in ecommerce, #1 in web-marketing, #1 in entrepreneurship.
Time to listen me thinks.
To none other than social media heavy-weight Gary Vaynerchuck
(and the one book in particular I’m talking about is his most excellent ‘Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook’.
The interview I’m referring to is an interview Perry Marshall did with Gary, and yes, it’s a paid product, but this thing costs less than the book, you can consume it in just over an hour (unless you play it at double speed;-) and it’ll give you insights that are worth millions …. worth every penny)
The whole thing is about how to “turn a lightweight into a heavyweight” – or: the whole ‘fake it until you make it’ thing (how NOT do to it, and how to do it right)
In other words:
if you’re looking to build a REAL business, that’s based on REAL value (and as a result, you have a REAL chance of REALLY standing out), you’ll love this!
Here are just a few snippets:
“How to hire a social media manager”
Well, if you’re wondering WHY you should hire a social media manager in the first place, you would be well advised to listen the interview first, but a little hint is in this interview Vishen Lakhiani did with Richard Branson:
“It’s all about finding and hiring people smarter than you. Getting them to join your business. And giving
them good work. Then getting out of their way. And trusting them. You have to get out of the way so YOU
can focus on the bigger vision. That’s important. And here’s the main thing….you must make them see
their work as a MISSION.”
And Gary has some great tips on how to make that work!
At 15mins there is a terrific insight into becoming and/or being an authority in your market, immediately
followed by how to make content marketing work! AWESOME sauce!
Next is a a beautiful piece on how to really sell a book – my heart was jumping with joy when Gary made some rather, mhmm, let’s call them ‘frank’ remarks about the whole concept of “publishing a book to establish yourself as a marketing expert … and then you’re at #1 of your category for one day whilst your mum and your sister buy the book … and 10 days later you’re nowhere to be seen”.
I also resonate 100% with his aversion to “selling marketing” … sell marketing to marketers who want to sell to marketers…. eek
at some point he wraps it up quite nicely in something like this:
do you want to be around and relevant 1, 3, 5, 10, 30 or even 60 years from now?
There are quite a few real mindbenders, like “Facebook no longer a social media platform!” (ha, wrap your head around this one, but when you hear his insight into what edgerank has turned it FB into, you’ll have a major a-ha moment!)
There’s a very nice example of how to create business on Twitter by NOT offering stuff! (aka: the stuff that’s usually pushed in marketing courses)
At 41mins: if ever wondered WHAT to post … well, here’s your answer. Hint: it’s NOT randomly aggregated content!
The list goes on…
So, for the price of a small pizza (or the opportunity to smell one if you’re based in Switzerland), this is a great piece of content to get your creative juices flowing:
Grab it whilst it’s still open to the public (it’s normally only available to members of Perry Marshall’s Mastermind Club)
PS: listen to it right now, and let me know what you think!
